    Texas law recognizes bicycles as vehicles, which means cyclists have the same rights and responsibilities as motor vehicle drivers. However, several specific laws apply to bicyclists in the state:

    • Riding on the Road: Bicyclists must ride as close as practicable to the right curb or edge of the roadway, except when passing, turning left, or avoiding hazards.
    • Sidewalk Riding: San Antonio prohibits riding bicycles on sidewalks in most downtown and commercial areas.
